Low Energy Neutron Source (LENS)

LENS overview LENS

LENS is a small pulsed neutron source dedicated to materials research, development of neutron instrumentation, and education. We offer unique capabilities for research on neutron moderators and rapid testing of novel instrumentation ideas. Our neutron scattering instruments are fed by a cryogenic methane moderator and two of these are devoted to studies of large-scale structure through SANS and SESAME (Spin-Echo Scattering Angle MEasurement ). A third instrument is devoted to moderator studies and detector development (MIS, the Moderator Imaging Station). A Neutron Radiation Effects Facility (NREF) is also available at a second target assembly for commercial users interested in the effects of neutron radiation on electronics.
